I too am saddened of Barry's parting, I joined the OPA and had my fist visit to the abbey in 2001, my first year at uni and the beginning of a brand new set of adventures.
Barry and the gang introduced me to the Golden dawn, chaos magic, tantra, and I think most importantly, Thelema.Approaching ceremonial magic and hermeticism for the 1st time, as a former Catholic and a Wiccan, Barry challenged my inner nature, prodding and poking my beliefs, stimulating me to think and practice.
last I heard, 2 years ago the abbey itself was being dismantled due to lack of funds and meeting were continuing to be held at his place.
I am sure that Barry would have agreed with Liber AL II:71
"Exceed!, Exceed! Strive ever to more and if thou art truly mine-and doubt i not, an if thou art ever joyous!-death is the crown of all"

Hail and farewell to Barry.

He was a wonderful Teacher, a great Master of Magic, and I was touched and honoured when he gave me privacy in the Temple so I could enact a Sword Ritual from the Chair.

May his Light continue to Shine.

I meet Barry in 1977 and we were friends ever since. Over the years I explored Thelema, LHP, Chaos Magic and lots more and always found him a superb teacher and tutor. I was a member of the OPA in the Seventies and again in the late eighties. As years passed Barry and myself spoke every month or so and as his health (and my own) degenerated it was marvellous to still be able to talk about everything from Magick to Buddhism. Even early this year I found his mind never dimmed. I miss his wisdom and honesty greatly.

Hello all,
We Have met :-)
I was a member of the order for almost a decade & of course being a taurus I had butted heads with my Imperator G.:H.: Frater C.:D.: a number of times & eventually I had things dragging my time away from the Abbey & back to the Material world...
It was with great Honour & privelige that I performed the opening ceremony at his funeral.
The rite, although performed by a group who largely had had little contact with each other for around 5 years and was rehearsed momentarily beforehand. Was both a superb example of the orders teachings & the quality of the magick practiced there. The participants were a little bit out of practice & "bones were stiff" but the clarity of the actions was superb. It showed that once ingrained, the order teachings can prepare you to practice magick at any moment, with only essential tools.
The Order dagger & thurible added immensly to the occasion and the Olibanum introduced the observers to the joy and mystery of it all.
I am sure that the phoenii & other past & passed members were in attendance. As well as many beautiful universal forces. For all it's holy hiatus, there was truth & focus that made it one of the most powerful rituals I had ever been involved with.
All involved knew their station & their purpose and expressed beautifully. The forces of nature abbated long enough to leave the incense to burn fruitfully and waft gleefully over the uninitiated attendees. The funeral organisers (arranged by an ex-opa member) were fascinated by the rite & understood with awakening eyes.
The family were happy that something they could not have done, was put together from the ether & Barry was given the necessary passing.
There was an order eulogy, family also contributed personnal eulogies & the rite was closed offically by the funeral conducters.
It was a rite befitting of the O.:P.:A.: "Creating a healthy public understanding and awareness of Magick" it taught & illuminated whilst Being of purpose.

I have felt the waves from this rite several times & know that the pebble that was dropped, created a Magnificent ripple. It is still in motion, for anyone who wishes to feel...

Do what thou wilt shall be the Whole of the Law
Love is the Law, Love Under Will

I first met barry in 1975 and have maintained a great friendship ever since. I owe my education to that man, and cannot speak highly enough of his wisdom.

Currently I am trying to locate him. I understadn he has been moved into an aged care facility, and am concerned that he is on his last legs. It would be lovely to be able to say thank you and goodbye to this person.

If anyone knows his current location can they please contact me via anna.me@gmail.com

Thank you

It is with great sadness that I discover this news, though I am certain barry is in a dar better place.

this man I owe so much to, will be very sadly kissed.

I first joined the OPA in 1975 and had held a great relationship with barry until a year ago. In searching for him, I discover this.

I have lost a true Master and Father. Rest well Frater CD.

A terrible shock, we have all lost a good friend, though a bit long and lost in my case... I was with the O.:P.:A.: in the mid-80's and never ceased to consider that period to be a major formative part of my life. I miss you all, though we've never really parted company. I haven't managed to get back in touch with anybody from the Ordo for years, so if anybody wants to get in touch with me and drink heavily to Barry's presence please do so!

Thank you Sean for the tasteful tribute.
