On Friday July 22nd, whilst I was sitting at home enjoying reading Schnews, a young man from Brazil was shot in the head seven times and once in the shoulder at Stockwell Tube Station. He was chased by vicious armed thugs, tripped over into the tube carriage, fell down and then the thugs whacked him.

It became apparent that the thugs acted with impunity. They didn't give a fuck who was watching them. They didn't care who would be a witness to the event or who would respond. They had their hit and they obviously felt assured that they will not be punished. The thug who pulled the trigger has been rewarded by being given a cushy desk job.

As the gang chased this man down, they all put on baseball caps that read "Police" and this makes the whole story a bit clearer; and it explains why they feel they can kill with impunity. They are working directly for the rulers of this world and they believe they can do whatever they like.

You see, this particular gang of armed thugs has the backing of the state. And the state relies on our fears so it has just gotten a whole lot more powerful. With terror attacks to scare us on the one hand, and deadly police fuck ups on the other, people are now scared to step out of line lest they become the next victim. Insidious really, isn't it?

Last night I went to the memorial/vigil/protest about the killing. It was pretty a surreal event after a pretty surreal month anyway. I was in Stockwell the night before the shooting, coz in fact that's where I study Capoeira with Goia. My Yoga class is also really close to Stockwell station. I wonder if I'll be able to one day go back there without feeling a deep sense of dread?

The cops' and the government's sense of impunity will be their eventual downfall. I just worry about how much damage they, and those they upset, will do before hand.
