This wildcat strike got absolutely zero mainstream media attention as far as I can tell so I'm blogging it. Over 1000 postal workers in Northern Ireland went on strike, despite their union not agreeing with it. They weren't demanding more hols, or more cash or less hours - just to be treated fairly! What's more, the strikers were from across the traditional sectarian catholic/protestant divide. They brought the postal system to a stand-still and they've won the day. Justice for workers has prevailed. Yay! Why this didn't get media attention raises a number of ominous questions?
"At a packed meeting at lunchtime on Friday 17th February, in Transport House, Belfast, striking postal workers decided to end their wildcat strike and return to work having won their dispute.
An independent review of industrial relations, the key demand of the strikers, has been won. Strikers also forced Royal Mail to agree a non-victimisation clause in the agreement that brought the dispute to a close - while the 12 month no strike clause was effectively scrapped."
